today. Started missing dA a bit, and the people here. Not sure how many I know are still around :noes: I had lots and lots of stuff to take care of again, and I still do. I'm going to move to the UK in September! :o ~E314c (https://www.deviantart.com/e314c) asked nicely, so we're going to live in Sheffield together. :dummy: Kind of fun and a bit scary at once. :D So that means I'm packing and cleaning and throwing stuff away. And have lots of paperwork to take care of. :hmm: In the meanwhile I'm trying to make a cosplay costume. Already tried making some accessories out of Fimo clay. First time since I was in elementary school that I tried that and it didn't turn out

Happy birthday! Hope you've had an awesome day and that the rest of your year is fantastic! :hug:
:cake::iconhappybirthdayplz::cake: Hope you're having a great day!!
And as usual, I type a long response while the forum thread is being closed.

Here is what I was going to say in response to your last post:

Unless you are being manipulated by brain control technology, then yes, you are responsible for liking what you like, even if the preference has an unconscious or genetic origin.

What I mean about justification not being required is that hate, as a genuine emotional response, is not a logical thought process based on analysis of empirical data. It is a neuro-chemical reaction. Demanding that people defend their hatred with logic is counter productive and, in my mind, counter intuitive.  You can be asked to defend a specific belief. Example, I hate X because I believe Y. Perhaps Y is an erroneous belief. But if Y is factually true, you cannot objectively say that "reason Y is not justification for hating X". You cannot justify emotional reactions.
Ah, thanks for getting back to me, because I really wanted to know what you meant!

That makes perfect sense of course. I was wondering how it related to your quote, but it may not? As the exact same thing can be said about liking things. It's not usually a rational thing (though people try to rationalize both their likes and dislikes usually).

I suppose in a decent discussion, asking someone why they hate something may at least help them think about it and see that their hate is unfounded. That could then help them to stop hating and feel more neutral about whatever it is they hated. (not common, but I've seen it happen)

Thanks!
Asking why someone hates something is a great idea, I agree. Asking them to justify it, or worse, telling them they have no justification is not a good idea.

It is a good discussion to have. Too bad the OP was flaky.
Ah, true!

Ah well, I don't usually expect interesting conversation on the dA forums :D
